Brian Gibbs

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, Gibbs moved to San Francisco to design and choreograph. His works have been performed onstage by world-class artists, projected during fashion shows, and featured in Movmnt Magazine.

Within a year’s time, his association, The Artist Group (TAGsf), has accumulated over 30 dance films, shot by videographer Matthew Taylor. Gibbs has collaborated with dancers from San Francisco Ballet, Alonzo Kings LINES, American Ballet Theatre, Hubbard St, Batsheva, Jacoby & Pronk, Sundance award-winning producer, David Molina, and recent Grammy-award winner, Ashlin Parker.

Gibbs’ work walks the fine line between art and dance, using avant-garde techniques to concentrate on graphic design, visual art and multi-media. His movement is best described as “progressive”, firmly rooted in the classical tradition while bringing in non-dance related influences to push the form.

Currently, Gibbs is creating work to be performed this April with dancers from Armitage Gone Dance, ABT and NYCB, premiering a dance films at Dance Theatre Workshop in NYC, performing/touring a duet with BIG TROUBLE, and working with the emerging dance company, Quixotic (Kansas City).
